September 2006 marked the completion of the reconstruction of the

SR 826 at NW 36th Street interchange

BPA was responsible for the CEI services for the $37 million project which was completed in 32 months.  The project was completed within the allowable contract time, which was an accomplishment considering the impact of 5 named hurricanes, material and labor shortages.

The project included the complete reconstruction of the interchange.  The mainline SR 826 bridge over NW 36th Street was replaced with a single 175' structural steel girder bridge.  The profile on SR 826 was raised over 9' to accommodate the greater beam depth and new clearance criteria.

BPA’s role was a challenging one.  The project required 10 different construction phases in order to reconstruct the interchange and maintain 4 lanes of traffic in each direction at all times.  This busy  expressway is used by an estimated 210,000 motorist each day.
