As part of
the South Terminal Exit Roadways Improvement project at Fort
Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, BPA recently
completed the structural design and construction inspection
services for the New Toll Plaza / Administration
Building facility and Mechanical Room. BPA is proud to have
participated in the Team that helped implement this $9 M
toll plaza relocation in record time. Our role during the
fast track design process included the structural design of
the toll plaza canopy structure and the Administration
Building located on the ground level of the Hibiscus Parking
Garage. Once the design phase was completed, BPA served as
special inspector providing construction inspection services
for the structural components, including shop drawing
approval and responding to RFIs.
As seen above, the canopy
structure consists of open web steel joist supported by two
rows of joist girders. The steel joist girders are
continuous over two spans and cantilever out at the ends
adjacent to the existing parking garages. The New Toll Plaza
facility accommodates 9 lanes of traffic under the canopy
structure and 3 lanes through the existing Hibiscus Garage. |
