Miami-Dade County, Parks and
Recreation Department is in the process
of conducting maintenance and repair work on
the
Monorail System at
Metro-Zoo. Bolton, Perez & Associates
conducted visual inspections of the
structures at the Monorail Stations and
developed alternative solutions for repairs
of Pier No. 1 at Station No. 1. The work
consisted of conducting a structural
analysis of the pier structures that support
the train loads and developing alternative
repair solutions for strengthening the shear
capacity of the existing pier cap. The
repair solution focused on a quick repair
method that minimized any visual impact to
the existing structure while maintaining the
trains in operation. These challenging
requirements led BPA to consider and
recommend the use of Fiber Carbon
Reinforced Polymer Straps. With
assistance from industry specialists BPA
designed and developed contract documents
and specifications for the repair work to
the Monorail Pier at Station No. 1. |
